Sanofi: Structuring large-scale engagement in healthcare and measuring its real impact

Sanofi is a global healthcare leader present in over 100 countries, working to prevent diseases, improve treatments, and make care accessible to as many people as possible. In France, the company employs nearly 17,000 people across the entire value chain. Sanofi develops therapeutic solutions in major fields such as chronic diseases, vaccines, and oncology, while actively committing to inclusion, public health, and social responsibility.

Moving from individual engagement to a large-scale impact strategy

For several years, Sanofi France has integrated societal engagement into its CSR strategy with a strong ambition: to enable employees to contribute to causes that resonate with their profession and values. The company focuses on three key pillars: access to healthcare, inclusion, and the environmental transition. However, with 17,000 employees spread across highly diverse sites, a major challenge is to structure an approach that remains clear and consistent at scale.

Launched in 2019, the "Je m’engage" program allows every Sanofi France employee to get involved with non-profits across three priority themes. With the increasing maturity of its CSR approach, the company reached a new milestone in 2024: measuring the program's real impact with Komeet to showcase it to the Executive Committee and integrate engagement into the company's overall performance.

An engagement strategy structured around 3 strong levers

Combined national and local management

  • Coordination by Diane Brément, CSR Director for France
  • Network of CSR representatives deployed across sites (research, production, distribution)
  • Reporting to the Chairman of France, with complementary programs supported by the Sanofi Foundation

Simple and centralized access to engagement

  • “Je m’engage” platform already integrated into internal workflows
  • Centralization of all action formats: field missions, mentoring, and donations
  • Employees can propose their own non-profits, strengthening local roots

Personalized and regular communication

  • Engagement newsletter sent every 6 weeks to 15,000 employees
  • Launch of the “Clic Solidaire” campaign by France President, Audrey Derveloy
  • Varied formats: on-site signage, intranet, videos, and in-person events

Feedback

"Measuring impact allows us to move beyond philanthropy and show that engagement is a true driver of change. It helps us get leadership on board, recognize employee efforts, and meet transparency requirements. Today, we can no longer just say that engagement 'does good': we have to be able to prove it."

- Diane Brément,
CSR Director France
